Privacy Policy

Last Updated: February 08, 2024

This Privacy Policy applies to information that we collect about you when you use:

  • Our websites (including faithassistant.com and manifestautomation.com, biblechat.ai and console.biblechat.a);

  • Our native iOS and Android applications

  • Our Third party integrated applications (including the BibleChat SMS, Facebook Messenger, Telegram, and WhatsApp chatbots).

Throughout this Privacy Policy we’ll refer to our websites, applications, and other products and services collectively as “Services.”

Below we explain how we collect, use, and share information about you, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.

Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways: if and when you provide information to us, automatically through operating our Services, and from outside sources. This includes information you provide directly, information collected automatically, and information from third-party sources.

Information You Provide to Us

It’s probably no surprise that we collect information that you provide to us. The amount and type of information depends on the context and how we use the information. Here are some examples:

  • Basic Account Information: We may ask for basic information from you in order to set up your account. For example, we require individuals who text message the BibleChat text messaging service to use their phone number, which is information we collect.

  • Transaction and Billing Information: If you buy something from us – for example, a subscription to a Bible Chat plan - you will provide additional personal and payment information that is required to process the transaction and your payment, such as your name, credit card information, and contact information.

  • Content Information: You may also provide us with information about you in draft and published content. For example, if you add a Bible Chat Team that includes biographic information about you, we will have that information, and so will anyone with access to the team if you choose to invite them.

  • Communications with Us (Hi There!): You may also provide us information when you respond to surveys, communicate with our support team, post a question about your site in our public forums, or sign up for a newsletter. When you communicate with us via form, email, phone, forum comment, or otherwise, we store a copy of our communications.

Information We Collect Automatically

We also collect some information automatically:

  • Log Information: Like most online service providers, we collect information that web browsers, mobile devices, and servers typically make available, such as the browser type, IP address, unique device identifiers, language preference, referring site, the date and time of access, operating system, and network information. We collect log information when you use our Services–for example, when you create or make changes to your account on GetBibleChat.com.

  • Usage Information: We collect information about your usage of our Services. For example, we collect information about the actions that users perform within the Services – in other words, who did what, when and to what thing. We also collect information about what happens when you use our Services (e.g., page views, support document searches, features enabled for your account, interactions with our support team, and other parts of our Services) along with information about your device (e.g., screen size, name of network, and mobile device manufacturer). We use this information to, for example, provide our Services to you, as well as get insights on how people use our Services, so we can make our Services better.

  • Location Information: We may determine the approximate location of your device from your IP address. We collect and use this information to, for example, calculate how many people visit or use our Services from certain geographic regions.

  • Information from Cookies & Other Technologies: A cookie is a string of information that a website stores on a visitor’s computer, and that the visitor’s browser provides to the website each time the visitor returns. Pixel tags (also called web beacons) are small blocks of code placed on websites and emails. Manifest Automation Inc. uses cookies and other technologies like pixel tags to help us identify and track visitors, usage, and access preferences for our Services, as well as track and understand email campaign effectiveness and to deliver targeted ads. For more information about our use of cookies and other technologies for tracking, including how you can control the use of cookies, please see our Cookie Policy.

Information We Collect from Other Sources

In short, we desire to glorify God, love Him, and love each other as we steward AI.

10 Point Preamble

At the foundation, this policy was created to ensure the use of AI within [Church Name] strives toward 10 core values:

  • Transparency - Sheds His light on issues, does not bring darkness - transparency and accountability in new technology. (Ephesians 5:11, James 1.5)

Hallucinations

A ‘heretical hallucination’ in generative AI refers to instances where AI model generate outputs that are perceived as realistic but are not grounded in actual data, reality, or Biblical Truth. These outputs may include images, text, or other media that simulate real-world content but are created by the AI algorithm based on patterns learned from training data.

To guard against heretical hallucinations, [Church Name] significantly mitigates (and ideally eliminates) the risks of hallucinations by the following actions:

Biblical Discernment

  • All AI applications, particularly those involving interactive or interpretive features, are evaluated and trained on biblical principles.

  • Church leaders and members exercise discernment rooted in Scripture to distinguish between Truths and deceptive manifestations.

Theological Guidance

  • Ensure that AI systems align with orthodox Christian doctrine and do not promote doctrines or teachings contrary to biblical truth.

  • Seek guidance from qualified theologians and spiritual advisors when implementing AI technologies that involve spiritual content or interactions.

Testing and Validation

  • Prior to deployment, AI systems should undergo thorough testing and validation to detect and mitigate potential risks of hallucinations or misleading experiences.

  • A testing period should be determined to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content or interactions. Each staff member, (and potentially layleaders), were given the opportunity to test the technology.

Spiritual Discipleship

  • Emphasize the importance of spiritual discernment and maturity among church members through discipleship and teaching.

  • Equip individuals with the knowledge and wisdom to recognize and respond appropriately to our Enemy, technology, and life.

Training Bias

Training bias refers to the inclination of AI systems to mirror and propagate societal biases inherent in the data used for their training. For [Church Name], it is imperative to mold AI training bias in accordance with biblical principles of both God’s Truth, and His Love. We take the following steps to ensure AI technology remains biblically orthodox:

  • Build on a Biblical Framework: We [develop or leverage] biblically-based large language models to ensure biblical values steer the development and training of AI outputs.

  • Ensure Diverse Data Representation: Guarantee that training datasets utilized for AI development embrace varied perspectives and life experiences, including those of underrepresented groups within the church community.

  • Implement Bias Detection and Mitigation: Regularly monitor AI systems for unintended biases and take corrective measures to rectify discrepancies.

  • Engage with Stakeholders: Engage with a broad spectrum of stakeholders, such as [appropriate church leadership], as well as church members, to elicit feedback and insights regarding potential biases in AI systems. Cultivate an environment of open dialogue and collaboration to effectively identify and address biases.

  • Emphasize Continuous Learning and Improvement: Prioritize ongoing learning and refinement in AI training methodologies, incorporating feedback gleaned from real-world applications and experiences. Adapt training approaches to align with evolving societal norms and ethical considerations, ensuring that AI systems remain steadfastly aligned with [Church Name’s] values and mission.

Governance

The [relevant leadership body], will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of this policy. The leadership body may designate specific staff members, such as the Director of IT or Director of Communication, to ensure adherence to ethical standards and values regarding AI usage within the church context. These designated individuals will report periodically to the leadership body on the implementation and impact of AI initiatives.

Regular training and educational sessions will be conducted for staff and volunteers to foster an understanding of the ethical considerations surrounding AI use. These sessions will equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to make informed decisions in line with our Biblical values.

Review and Adaptation

This policy will undergo regular reviews to accommodate new advancements in AI technology and emerging use cases. The leadership body will lead these reviews, taking into account feedback from relevant stakeholders, including the congregation and community members.

Feedback mechanisms will be established to gather input on the effectiveness and alignment of the policy with the church's mission and values. Congregants, volunteers, and community members will be encouraged to provide insights and suggestions for improvement, ensuring that the policy remains relevant and responsive to the evolving landscape of AI technology and its applications in the church context.
